    Hey guys

I’m trying to render a 4 minute HD (dvcprohd 1920×1080) piece with over 300 3d layers and complex lighting. My machine hasn’t made it through a render yet– it gets about an hour in and then just freezes the whole machine up. My next step is to just render all the pre-comps and bake the plugins in and then do a master render but that sucks. I just bought a Mac Pro quad with 6 gigs of ram and I would love to just be able to render the whole thing out. Any tips on HUGE renders and how to make them work?

By the way, I am using AE cS3 on Leopard. Both are updated to the lastest. And yes, I fixed the quicktime itunes 10 minute render debacle.

Render to a still sequence. When the box quits after doing frame 351, start up the render again at frame 352. When done, import the sequence back into AE for a quick conversion to another format if you want.

Go to the Secret prefs and purge RAM every 5-15 frames or so. When accessing the prefs>general, hold down the shift key until you see the big Prefs Drop-down menu. Then look for Secret at the bottom. Monitor your RAM usage as it renders.
