After Effects does not create the necessary intermediate frames on its own. You need something like Twixtor to do that.
But software like that can only interpolate the information that it has been given, so your shot may or may not work. Try it — I think there’s a demo.

Avoiding the platform issue, maybe it’s because Windows Media Player doesn’t seem to let you pause, scrub and search a clip. At least I haven’t figured out a way to do it yet …

Try turning field separation off on interpretation. It tends to mess up static clips.

Have you tried importing the corrupt file into another AEP? If that doesn’t work, sometimes Adobe techs watch the Adobe forums and I’ve seen them take corrupt files and fix them … sometimes. 🙂
Strange that your backups were damaged. Have you tried deleting AE’s prefs, or uninstalling/reinstalling?

Nope.
But to simulate the front camera, try creating a camera with a really high focal length and matching Z-distance. Try 10,000 for each.
