I’d join Chris and advise you to spend the $100 for Cinema 4D CE+ and learn it before you have to do something that AE can’t do … on a deadline.
At least learn how to extrude along a path to make those growing tubes and ribbons. It’s dead-easy in C4D.
My point is, actually, if you want to be an AE artist, fine. But if you want to be a motion graphics artist, you’ll need a 3D app sooner or later. Better to hop on the learning curve now.
If you want to see discussions on which app to choose, search the COW for “cinema” — it’ll lead to discussions of a bunch of 3D apps.

In general, tracking software prefers tracking corners. If you can zoom into the corner of a square or triangle, the tracking software should be able to follow it nicely. The problem with circles is when they are too big, the software can start drifting around the circle’s edge, since there’s no corner to grab.
… in my experience, at any rate.

AE 6.5 offers text animation presets. If you search the help for “gallery”, you should find the gallery of animation presets. To apply one to a text layer, look under the animation menu at the top of the screen.

Hmm … 5 minutes at 5 MB … that would make a data rate of 1 MB/minute, or roughly 17 KB/second.
You can try reducing the frame rate, image size and quality to get down to that data rate … but you might not like what you see. Sometimes you just can’t cram an elephant through the eye of a needle.
Try 160×120 at 15 fps, low-to-medium quality on something like Quicktime’s Sorenson 3.

Sorry, you cannot save to an earlier version. The 6.0 computer must be upgraded to 6.5.
Or you load 6.0 on your computer and start from scratch. Sorry, but that’s the way it works. The developers may have tried that functionality in the past, but my guess is that so many features had to be disabled or reconfigured, that it was dropped. But that’s just speculation.

AE doesn’t do reflections. You need to duplicate everything that will be seen in the reflection, flip it, and move it to the other side of the reflection plane (the street).
Just pretend that there really is another world on the other side of the mirror.

1. Do not use MP3 audio in AE. Use Quicktime Pro or similar to convert the audio to AIFF or WAV. Import the WAV or AIFF into AE.
2. To change the speed, look up “time remapping” in the help.
3. You can change the composition frame rate under composition>settings.
I hope that helps,

Not true. Each program can only access 2 GB of RAM, currently. But if you want to have more than one program open at once …
Don’t forget, the OS uses RAM as well.

I thought an FLV had to reside within an SWF.
(Like I know what I’m talking about …)

Speaking of conceptual and design stuff, has anyone any comments on Visual Creativity by Mario Pricken?
I glanced at it and it looked interesting, regarding creative choices.
Thanks,
Steve
