As i can recall, that was an issue known to be in Vegas 10.

Always have the Master Bus Window docked so you can always keep abreast of

Likewise got frustrated learning it.
Actually early in my career it was Premiere that i started off using
before stumbling across Vegas. Sony Vegas editing process is faster
