March 1, 2016 at 8:22 am in reply to: Ultrastudio mini monitor unusable in fcpx

    Thanks for the reply, everyone.
First of all, I think BM should at least aknowledge the problem, but from what I’ve learned so far, support is not equaly spread across all of their product lines. It could be a fcpx problem as well. Unfortunately I can’t really say, because I have not been able to test the T-tap. My personal guess is that the av-output function in fcpx does limit the software’s capabilities. Why else does the software advise you to maybe turn off av-output if frames are being dropped?
That’s why I returned to a method that really works best with fcpx: viewer on second display.
Offcourse, for that you need to output through the tunderbolt-port or the display port. Fortunately my broadcast monitor has a DVI input. So I bought myself a thunderbolt-to-DVI thingy and a DVI cable, and voilà. Works like a charm. And I can still activate the LUT’s that I uploaded to the monitor, to view my footage in a specific look.
I don’t know if it’s color critical, but for color correction I use Davinci anyway, and the mini-monitor works fine with Davinci, so.
I hope this has been helpful.

July 23, 2011 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Trimming capabilities

Thank you very much for the replies kind folk. I will most certainly fill in the request form. The adobe package would be perfect for me if i could only trim any number of tracks i desire without ever having to touch the mouse. Some people may think differently, but i feel that the keyboard is still the fastest tool for accurate editing. Watching somebody who masters all the shortcuts is a beautiful sight indeed 😉

If you want to apply the same vignette on everything you can nest your sequence into another and apply the vignette there.

August 20, 2009 at 12:12 pm in reply to: how to export aaf with original clipnames

Awsome! Many thanks, Job. This comment was a lifesaver. Avid support Belgium didn’t even know the answer to that one. Anyhow, I made a new bin, put all the audiofiles from all shooting days in it, added a copy of the episode, selected everything and chose the command “relink to selected”. Worked like a charm, now the audioclips in the timeline have the same name as the audio filenames we imported. I can make a new AAF. The guys on their NUENDO (not protools) system are going to be so relieved!
    Thanks again!

    Ok, here’s the first followup:

I’ve managed to do the ALE export, but as I try to reimport the modified file, the system states there’s is no tape name assigned.
I changed the ALE in Windows’ notepad. So is it possible that the tabs got screwed up?

Wow Job, you hit the nail right on the head. Because we import the clips rather than digitize them, I will check if we can import only the video. If not, I will try your ways.
Many thanks man and don’t forget to strech! 😉

    Thanks slash bedankt, Job!

Your answer didn’t come as a surprise to me. I was kinda hoping there would be another function within Avid to, for instance, make a new clip with only the audio from the wav file in it. Now you still have to first put it on a timeline and then select the other “angle” within the audio track(s) to hear the field recorded audio. The cool thing about auto sync is that you can just select everything and Avid will make groups where possible. Saves some time, yeah… but just out of curiosity 🙂 is there a way to tell avid the audio from the wav file has to be the default track?
I hope this is not gibberish. The producer is very keen on time saving functions and we’re both kinda pushing the envelop. (The show (a telenovella) is filmed with the new HD XDCAMS by Sony. Just arrived.)
    Cheers,

    Steven.

    Thanx for the replies guys,

I’ll monitor their actions with hawk eyes. Am I right to conclude that you cannot adjust this offset in FCP? Only in the deck?

Thanx for the quick reply Walter,

Unfortunately, according to the guy responsible for the machines in this house there has not been a software update. It is however possible that the machines have different software versions without him being aware of it. Nevertheless, I’m happy to read you’ve had the same problem. Time to call in the Sony guys for a check up.
