    Ok, here we go:

When I batch capture footage for the drama show I’m editing, every now and then the audio comes 2 frames too fast. We use a clapper, so it’s not a playback issue: frame by frame I can monitor the audio and it’s 2 frames off. Here are the specs

Clips are not longer than 2 minutes.
Clips are HD 1080i PAL from a Sony HDW-2000
Capture using AJA KONA, controlpanel V4.0
    Codec used: ProrezHQ 1080i 50
    SDI Embedded audio
    Ref in.

    3 seconds preroll

The mac is a MACPRO 2 times 3 GHZ Quad with 8 gig of RAM

The drives are from Ciprico, fibrechannel, very fast

    OSX 4.10
    FCP 6.0.1

Same problem occured when i was still using a blackmagic card, so i’m pretty sure it’s not the AJA.

Right now, my guess is FCP or the player. Anybody wanna make a guess?

I think one of our three HDW-2000’s is the cause of all this. Digitizing with the other two results in sync sound, only number three gives me trouble.
Time to put this issue on the sony forum, huh?

Has there been any sort of a Software Upgrade done to that deck recently? We had some dubs made at a post house one time and all the tapes were 2 frames out of sync. Turned out Sony engineers had been in the week before to update the machines and all of the updated ones were 2 frames off.

Thanx for the quick reply Walter,

Unfortunately, according to the guy responsible for the machines in this house there has not been a software update. It is however possible that the machines have different software versions without him being aware of it. Nevertheless, I’m happy to read you’ve had the same problem. Time to call in the Sony guys for a check up.

    Thanx for the replies guys,

I’ll monitor their actions with hawk eyes. Am I right to conclude that you cannot adjust this offset in FCP? Only in the deck?

the situation that affected us was something in the Sony deck software, nothing to do with FCP or any other NLE. If it’s the same thing, then you have to have Sony out to fix it.

Did any one get a solution to this?

I’m editing tape XDCAM onto HDCAM (HDW 2000) and am finding that all of my edits are 2 frames late (on out and in)

This is with a sony BVE2000 with the correct VTR constants.

    Thanks Steve
