    Sorted!

    Thanks, Craig. I’m afraid I haven’t used Clip Browser since March, and totally forgotten how it works.

    I now see all the clips.

    Thank you!

    Well, would you believe it!

    You solved it in one. My colour temp wheel was set at “A” which isn’t standard temperature but a cross filter. I should have been set at “B” for standard temp. I must stop twiddling with knobs when I’m bored . . . .

    Again, many thanks for offering a comment.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thank you heaps for taking the time to view my frames. I didn’t positively set any ND filter, but first thing in the morning I will check the cam in case I inadvertently nudged one into place.

    May 18, 2009 at 7:14 am in reply to: leaving firewire cable connected to computer

    I leave my cables dangling out of my G5 all the time. I seem to recall reading that the IEEE standard requires the connectors to be good for so many thousands of plug-unplug operations but I don’t see the need to cause wear by unnecessary tidyness! I also recall some article advising us to plug-in firewire cables only to devices which are switched off. They suggested a higher risk of firewire card failures when “live” connections are made between devices. Sorry I can’t cite references but, until a Cow member learned in science turns up with a reasoned reply, I’d play it safe and make dead connections only and then switch on your camera.

    We have such a thing for our fitness videos. I’ll dig it out for you later today and, if no-one has replied to you in the meantime, I’ll send it across to you.

  • $3200 is a large sum. And you earned it! Recently, I sued a mobile phone operator for the return of $1.50 (they added a monthly insurance premium despite the salesperson agreeing not to). They paid me about $50 including my small claims court fee here in the UK.

    I haven’t yet, in about 8 years of business, had one bad debt. My system on late payments is:

    informal email announcing an item is overdue;

    letter in the mail stating that interest and collection fees will be added, but not if they pay within 14 days;

    Notice Before Action – a cold and formal affair which I have used maybe 3 times – giving them a vivid visual image that we really are moving to the next stage: “at 10am on 1st June 2009, at Eastbourne County Court proceedings shall be commenced against you for recovery of the debt”. I’ve never needed to take a debt case any further than this so, leaving aside my time, my costs have been nil.

    Although its much easier to click “send” on an email, I feel a tangible letter in the hand reminds them that their slow payment is affecting a real person, not a virtual one.

    Hi Noah, Thank you for okaying my deal. I come from the stills world of Nikon, Canon & Mamiya RZ67 II and am thoroughly inexperienced with camcorders. I’ve only recently figured-out that 5mm is a wide lens. So it was nice to receive your thought that I hadn’t been overcharged. It was even nicer to see that you have been an SDX900 user – I enjoyed reading your Formosa article here on COW.

    Hi Noah,

    The deal is $7,000, inclusive of SDI board. It is a low mileage late 2005 model. I started my search looking for a HDX900 but their used values remain very high.
