I believe that paying $50 per month for darn near every product that Adobe has is a great deal ($30 per month for the first year for previous version owners).
Your company might really like paying by the month instead of paying for the upgrade in a big chunk. And you can promise that you will never ever need to lay out big bucks for Adobe software every again.
And, you will also get Lightroom and Muse.
I am a big believer in the Creative Cloud (except for the name because it isn’t really cloud based at all. Not really.)

I am with Jon. I have to wonder what the point is. Once you are done with a project, you export the results. Then you back up the project and store it somewhere on an external drive, or wherever. Right?
So, let’s assume that now and then, once in a while, you find yourself going back to old projects. Wouldn’t it be better if it looked the same as when you worked on it the first time?
I am obviously missing something. What is it that am I missing?

Sorry, but it really does seem like a corrupt file somewhere.
Even in the middle of a project, completely removing and reloading Premiere Pro and After Effects (you never know which one it might be, right?) should not take all that long. And it really can’t hurt your project files.

Assuming that the large files are DV AVI or some other common codec, when you edit the timeline, add your music, etc, then export to a format you can use in Encore (or dynamically link to Encore), then Encore will take care of properly coding your video to be used on a DVD. Which is generally much smaller a file than the original due to some massive compression.
6GB of DV is about 30 minutes of video. That can be put on a DVD at the highest quality with no problem.

I believe that the custom key settings are saved in
“Adobe Premiere Pro Custom.kys” in the AppData/Roaming|Adobe/PremierePro/6.0 directory. Try moving that file to a different computer.

I see time remapping for video but not audio in Premiere Pro. Oh, you can speed it up and down, you just can’t ramp it.Audition is much easier to use for this.
In Audition, just select the heartbeats, one at a time (two sounds is one heartbeat?) and select Effects, then Time and Pitch, then Stretch and Pitch.
I took a free audio clip of a steady heartbeat and did this with it.

This patient is one sick fellow.
I can’t find a way to gradually speed up and down. You would think a rubberband somewhere would allow that. But I haven’t found a way yet.

I am very happy with the GTX670 I put in my new system. It is a Kepler like the 660 you are looking at. You will have to add it to the list of supported cards (in a text file), and every time there is an update, you will have to add it to the text file again, but it is worth it. It will work fine.

There is a way to make them into master clips. Only it seems to be broken also.
I can make a subclip and see it in the project as 1:00, even though the master clip is 9 seconds long. So far so good.
But when I select “Edit Subclip” and click the “Convert to Master Clip” checkbox, the duration changes from one second to 9 seconds.

I can’t tell you why. I can only tell you that subclips were never implemented correctly in my opinion. This problem goes back to the beginning of subclips in Premiere Pro.
That doesn’t help you. I know. Other than knowing there is nothing you can do to make it work properly. I suggest that you add your Feature Request to the many that have probably already been submitted.
Having said that, I have a question for you. Since I don’t script in AE I really can’t check this out for myself, and it may be impractical… but here it is: If you make a new sequence for every subclip, does that help?
I can do that and see that the composition durations are correct, even if the subclip durations are not.

I just dropped each subclip on the New Item button. You could do a lot of sublips in pretty short order.
Does this help at all? Sorry, but I have been out of the game for a number of years and finally upgraded from CS3 to CS6. So I may be stating the obvious.

I am extremely pleased with my new PC. I had it built by ADK in Kentucky. I made a few decisions as to what I wanted after spending a lot of time researching and reading forum messages. Eric at ADK proceeded to question about half of my assumptions. Which was fine with me. We ended up building a PC that is remarkably fast at a price less than the USD $5,000.00 budget I set aside for this project.
I spent a bit extra to get a second SSD to clone the first one – for use during beta testing of software. I splurged a bit on extra quiet fans. I can now sit next to the PC while doing voiceovers and not have to clean in up in Audition later.
The basics are as follows:
ADK – Core i7 SB-E Motherboard: 4 PCIex16, 2 PCIe, up to 64Gig Ram
Intel – Core i7 3930K Processor: Overclocked to 4.5GHz w/12M cache
DDR3 4G 1600 memory 1.65v 9-9-9-24 (32G total)
GeForce – GTX670 4GB 256-bit PCI Express video card
Intel – 240GB 520 Series SSD Hard Drive: 550 read/520 write (OS)
WD 2TB Sata HDD 64meg cache sata 600 – 2 in RAID 0 (Media)
WD 2TB Sata HDD 64meg cache sata 600 – 2 in RAID 0 (Cache)
WD 2TB Sata HDD 64meg cache sata 600 – 1 (Finished Product)The CPU has 6 physical cores (12 Hyper-threaded). Not the monster that Tom has, but pretty darn good for the price.
The GTX670 is considerably less expensive than the GTX680 and isn’t much slower. I went for the biggest bang for the buck when I could without sacrificing much speed. I was not going to overclock, but Eric assured me it would be OK since I was using liquid cooling and decent fans. They seem to have good luck doing this and apparently the system is designed to deal with it… AE is optimized to use the GTX6xx cards for Ray Tracing. Very cool.
As for speed, I put together my first title for a short project using After Effects. Wow! I used to have to wait for things to happen. Now, they play back so fast I can try many different things that I would never have attempted on my last system.
Also, due to the SSD, my system takes less than 60 seconds from the time I press the “On” button to the time all tasks have been completed (included virus software) and it is ready to start loading After Effects.
So, if you have a lot of money you can spend to get what you really want, Tom has shown you the way. If your budget is more like mine, I think you will find a system like mine quite satisfactory.
If the budget is closer to USD $2000, then take a look at the budget system Videoguys recommends. The screen I am looking at as I write this has an advertisement for Videoguys offering a 5% discount. Select “Guides” and scroll down to the section about “DIY9”.
