I assume that you solved the problem by using ketframes to show the start position and scale, and then the end position and scale. Manually dragging the image in the Project Monitor helps a lot.

And yes, you should create two different DVDs.

Combining clips might create more problems than it solves. Perhaps the solution would be to allow you to “group” clips and apply effects to the group.

If I recall correctly, the way to create the subtitles for Encore is just easier in Excel because you have to export it to a certain type of file. It may be CSV, I don’t remember and I am away from my editing PC all week.
If you just want to create a bunch of titles using a text file as the basis for the title creation, there is a free utility for that function. If you are using CS3, you will have to export the file and then do the work. Then import them.

Create a new seqeuence, paste the clips into the new sequence, nest the new sequence back into the old, replacing the original clips. Now apply the speed changes.

Do you mean real subtitles that the user can turn on or turn off? If so, it can not be done at all in Premiere Pro. It is done with the DVD authoring program. Adobe Encore works fine. And you can import files into Encore that were created with Excel so you have the exact timecode in the file.
Or, do you mean you want to create a title in the Adobe Title Designer and then make a new title based on the original, change the text by selecting it and pasting in text from the clipboard?

I am not sure why you keep rendering, but there is no reason to export a file. A separate sequence is just as easy if not easier. Render when you need to, not just for the heck of it.
If you need to fade in and out, you might find it faster to razor the ends off so that only the part of the clip that matters needs to be rendered. A single ended transition might be easier for you.
I am not sure why you have premultiplied with black in the first place. I export Quicktime Animation when I export files with Alpha channels from After Effects. Sure it is premultiplied but with no color below it (the background color of the comp does not count) there is nothing to premultiply with.
Premiere Pro does not render per layer, no. Only export to DV AVI uses preview files. That will not work with a 32 bit file.
In any case, I suggest fading in and out in AE not Premiere Pro. But there is nothing you can do to speed up keyed footage for render or export to my knowledge. There are hardware devices that help, but not software to my knowledge.
If you had a recent vintage (2007) PC, you would probably be a lot happier. The speed of a Quad Core (or two of them) processor speeds things up considerably.

You can add that function using the Keyboard Customization menu, but you must select the track, not the clip. That will create a PgUp and PgDn like function but only on that track. Look for “Go To Next Edit Point in Target Track” and you will also see the Previous setting.
