NTFS would have handled it just fine. Your “DOS” formatting is the culprit. There is still a 2GB limit on disks formatted with that old style system.

Mac users would be better served by having a cheap PC as a ftp server so as to make it easy to transfer large files.

Adobe licensed the Cineform technology to get Premiere Pro 1.5.1 to work with HDV. What they did not do is license 100% of the technology. The acceleration involved, and the quick releases (free upgrades) have caused me to believe that Cineform has the right answer. At least for me.

Will Premiere Pro 2.0 have a better engine? I imagine it might. Will it be as good as Aspect HD? I don’t believe it will. My guess is that by the time they release Premiere Pro 2.0, Cineform will have improved the product even more. And well past what Adobe has.

It is a small part of the program, and a specialized company has the technologocal advantage.

I have never done it that way I guess. I have exported out a new CIneform AVI and used it in a DV project. And I have moved all of the captured clips over, but never impoirted the project. I am away from my editing PC this week, so I can not experiment.

I have no problem scaling the HDV footage in a DV project, but I have Aspect HD and I suppose that could make a difference.

If you capture a short HDV clip, and then import just the one clip into a new DV project, can you scale it down OK?

That hits the nail on the head. People use a mouse until they get tired of using a mouse and learn the shortcuts. One advantage of Premiere Pro is that you can take your time learning the shortcuts if you wish. Or, set them all to your liking right away.

Remember when you first got tired of using the mouse for Copy and Paste, and finally got around to memorizing Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V? Slowly but surely we learn our way around.

Except perhaps in AE where we learn from the great Brian Maffitt who mercilessly instills the shortcuts into our memory banks. (No joke, he is a tough task master, but there is none better.)

Just keep in mind that the smaller file is not actually any good for editing. Presentation? Yes. Editing? No.
