Unlinked Media + Re-conforming Audio
I am an Avid editor at work, but prefer Adobe at home. Here is an issue that doesn’t seem right; it shouldn’t be this hard:
I have captured an hours worth of video/audio clips and wait for the conforming process. I create a sequence and drag some clips into the timeline. I save the project (I’m guessing this includes all bin materials). I shut the system down. I fire it back up a few days later and find that all clips in the bin are “unlinked” (red media offline screen) and that every clip now has to go through the conforming process again. I relink media, allow the conforming process again. I edit and ctrl+S to save. I shut the system down. A day later I fire it up again… only to find all media unlinked and unconformed audio.
I admit I am not a NLE expert, but my process seems to make sense to me: create a project… bring material in… save the project… exit cleanly. Any suggestions? System includes: HP 2.8Ghz, 1gig of RAM, external HD at 7200rpm via 1394 connection, over 1/3 free space on external HD, PPro 1.0, Windows XP Media Center/Home.
NOTE: I have saved some elements, via camera or imported graphics/Photoshop images, in different folders on the HD. This should not be an issue as the original link should remain as long as the media resides in a static location.Thanks in advance,

Are your drive letters changing depending on how you fire things up? Maybe which order?

No. The external drive boots to “G” every time. And just to add to the previous message: The past weekend afforded me 3 editing sessions. Each session went flawlessly. Each session allowed me to edit without re-linking or waiting for audio to conform again. Thanks for the thought though.
