Import the footage into a new project created at the same size you plan to use for the animated GIF.

Or, better yet, create an After Effects composition and export to the animated GIF fom there. Just remember there are fewer colors in a GIF.

I see. I can’t do much with the default handles either. So try this. Search the help on the words “text path”. The first item that shows up should be “Creating and animating text on a path”. Follow the steps to create some text, then create a mask, then apply the text to the path. Much easier that way.

You do not want to shoot the talent in the daytime and composite them into a night scene. So shooting indoors would help you a lot.

If you start off with an empty composition, then click on the T in the tools, you can type directly on the comp window. Is that what you are doing?

The problem is that when you apply the path text effect, it wants you to type the text again. So I normally just type a placeholder. Just something to create the layer, then I type in the text in the effect’s text box. That deletes the text in the placeholder.

If you mess around and select the empty text box placeholder in the comp window after applying the path text effect, and delete it, you can get that “empty text layer” thing happening. So don’t do that. Leave the empty box alone. Or, you can go back to the way we used to do things. Create a new solid and apply the Path Text effect to that. It means you have to label the layer yourself, but you will not have to worry about messing with the empty box, because there will not be one.

Generally, just imagine that the steadymove utility zooms in so that the edges don’t show as it adjusts an area in each frame to be in the same place instead moving around. It is the zoom that causes the loss.

#1. It is quite common to just pick up a bit of ambient sound on any shoot. Streets, empty rooms, churches. Anywhere. You never know when it could come in handy.

#2. Audition has a nice and easy feature to eliminate noise. But you would be better off building a special box around the mic that deadens the sound from the room. I bought some special foam and lined a box that can sit on the desk with a slit cut to put the microphone on the middle. That way there is less noise to eliminate later.

#3. I put the section to be rerecorded into a sequence and then put multiple copies of the sequence on a new sequence. That gives me the same options pretty much as a loop. Beeps? Just add them as necessary. If the user has headphones, then the beeps are only temporary. Just don’t try to beep without headphones or it gets into the new audio track.
