First off for something like a cube effect you want to have the transition connect two clips. It sound as if you had a clip above another and were trying to transition downward (hopefully this makes some since).

Any way it sounds like the ones that aren’t working are either doing a simple dissolve or are taking with no transitional effect. Open each one of these and in the viewer at the top make sure the transition is set to ‘center on Edit’ which is a bevelled button with a triangle shape on. It sounds like your effects are on ‘end at edit’ which is to the right of the one you want. This should fix the problem.

if that didn’t work, on the right of the Viewer there is a small arrow on a bevelled button. Click this to flip the arrow.

I was thinking that, but normally the corruption happens in the Mac OS X preferences. I forgot to say that you shouldn’t bring over the Mail Preference(Although most corrupted App files are in the main library, like Library > Mail). With out move some of the Preferences over you could lose some data or have a hard time reseting all the software back to how you like it. Also their is software that puts the registration and serial info in the Prefs for some stupid reason. Thanks for the reply, I forgot about com.apple.mail.plist file.

March 16, 2007 at 12:45 am in reply to: What is Xgrid?????

I’m not fully sure. I’ve only used firewire. Normally you want to use some type of gigbit fibre channel. I don’t know if it works with ethernet or internet access if that’s what your asking.

It’s main purpose is for creating a cheap super computer for using software that can use Xgrid – like Maya or Mathmatic. Thats the big thing that I noticed. Unless you have Mac OS X server, you can only use Xgrid with Software that has been programmed for it.

    Here’s some helpful websites:

High performance computing has a few articles about xgrid:

March 15, 2007 at 5:55 pm in reply to: restoring factory settings on macbook.

You would need the Macbook’s restore DVD.

boot it up like your going to reinstall OSX.

When you get to the installer after restarting your machine go to the Menubar and to I believe it’s called ‘Applications’ then open Disk Utilities. This will open the app. Make sure the right disk is select then go to the erase panel and select your desired method. 7 and 35 pass methods are very secure, but Zero Out actually increases a little disk space and it’s much faster to delete files. If you did chose 7 and 35 your going to have to wait a while(on my PowerMac G5 7 pass takes about 10 hours 35 pass is 5x that). Next Quit Disk Utilities, it should bring you back to the installer. Now install OSX, make sure that the disk format is set to Mac OS extended(Journaled).

If you want to make sure the new Install is working restart the computer and wait for the setup assistant to come on, this shows that it’s already. Hold the power button for about 5 seconds to turn it off.

If you want to make sure your files are gone. Hook up another mac or external harddrive.

    Mac:
On your Macbook hold down T while starting it up. This opens it up in Target Mode(Makes the Mac into an external Harddrive and SuperDrive). Using firewire plug the Macbook into another Mac. The Macbook should popup like an external harddrive.

    External Hardrive:

On your Macbook hold down option while starting it up. This opens a little system so you can choose a start up disk. With a hard drive plugged in with OSX on it Select the HD’s icon. Then continue on it will boot OSX from the external HD and you should have your Macbook’s HD popup like an extra external drive.

    Good luck!!

There is no real simple or fast way of doing this, but here’s away that I might do it.

    1. (If root acount isn’t enabled) Go to Applications > Utilities > NetInfo Manager. Go to Menubar > Security > Authenticate… Then go to to Menubar > Security > Enable Root. A window will come up asking for a new password for the root.

    2. Log out. When you do there should be an account called ‘Other…’ Click on it and type the Root for the Name and the password that you chose. When you log in, you’ll notice that the dock is filled with server utilities and other apps like Terminal. Your now in the GUI version of the Root account of UNIX.

    3. Go to your old account and transfer everything over to your new account accept for the Library(This might have the error problem in it.)

    4. After go to Old User account > Library > Preferences and selected every App preference. Make sure you don’t grab a file for OS X. These normally start with ‘com.apple.’ and have a name of an OSX process like ‘coregraphics’ or ‘dock’. If you have any apps made by Apple they also start with ‘com.apple.’ then the app’s name, these you want to transfer. Then transfer all Preferences to your new account > Library > Preferences.

    5. Go to your old account > Library > Application Support, drag all files in this folder to your new account.
Also transfer over files in ‘Quicktime’, ‘Application enhancers’, ‘Fonts’, ‘iMovie’, ‘iTunes’, ‘Keychains, ‘Mail'(This might be bugged), ‘Plug-ins’, ‘Preference-Panes’, ‘Safari’, and anything else that might have important data.

    Conclusion: Hopefully this works!!

Xgrid is a way to connect computers to a server to do high calculations. You can use Apple’s OS X Server GUI Programs, a shareware preference App(Forgot name), or the UNIX terminal on any Mac.

It works very similar to a networked system. There’s agents(normal computers) that submits jobs to the controller(Main Computer System). The Controller could be a server or just one computer, once it’s done doing a job for an agent, it sends data back and waits for the next job.

If you want to use xgird with the terminal type ‘man xgrid’ for all the details on commands.

I’ve never heard of a battery doing this. The only two things I can think of is you had your laptop plugged into a wall and replaced the battery while it was on or there was some electric pulse that hit the harddrive and corrupted it some how. You should try using something like TechTools or Onyx to check your hardware and software for problems.

  • I don’t know if you have this problem, but when I have multiple video feeds, such as firewire, Final Cut Pro can’t figure out which one to choose so it brings up the black banner saying Video Preview Disabled. Also Final Cut Pro does errors like this if you are trying to capture a video feed that is not like the capture setting. Example: Capture a DV compression video feed to an h.264 compression clip. You seem to know what your doing though, so you’ll probably figure it out. It always seems to be some little thing you passed or didn’t notice.

    Good luck!!

That sounds reasonable to me. Just a little thing if your not using a preset to adjust the sequence, make sure field domination is set to none, but you probably already know that.
