This is wierd, I’m using the same version of compressor & fcp on a G5 and, so far, not having problems exporting directly from fcp using compressor. When I hit this command compressor opens up with the file already in and ready for setting and source designation.
However, if I try to go back to fcp with the file highlighted in compressor then fcp crashes and has to be force quitted etc.

    Something wierd here.

YES! Try downloading mpegstreamclip from https://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html .

Its free and works great. There are sometimes issues with timecode breaks in the VOB files so that you can transfer a complete 4 gig file but are only able to play a short segment although it says the whole file is there. This is because the playback head is meeting a timecode break. In the Edit (?) menu there is a ‘fix timecode break’ command. Using this has so far solved the problem.

    Good luck.

Do you have access to Apple compressor? I’m using this and not having any big problems with it.

    Hi guys,

Have you tried setting the field dominance to upper (odd) in FCP and exporting through compressor again?

I actually downloaded the free one Dai mentioned. But I’ve since figured out the answer – because VOB files have many timecode breaks you can only play back until the first break, even though you’ve transferred the full show. You need to use the fix time code breaks command and let it scan and fix all the breaks to access the full clip.

    Thanks for your help guys

I downloaded this app. and tried it on a 1 gig VOB file from a DVD but it’s only playing back 14 seconds of the file, which is the same result I was getting importing direct into FCP. Am I missing something here. What do I need to do to import and play back a complete 1 gig VOB file?

Any help you can give is thankfully received.

Thanks guys, I’m REEL appreciative Gary.

  • Try applying the stop motion filter with the following settings- Time lapse – 1; Steps-1; Initial opacity -100; Decay Opacity -100; Blend operator – Blend.

I’ve had some success in reducing jitters with this.
