PLEASE don’t use stick on labels. You want a test to prove it? Put a label on all the way, and rub it on like you normally would. Now, use a knife or key or something to peel an edge back, and rip the label off. I’ll bet you money your whole CD comes with it, and you are left with a clear plastic disc where your CD was. Just the thought of that being possible so easily just screams for troubles in the long run. If you have to do it on the cheap, Epson and HP both make printers with CD trays that do a fine job. Buy the inkjet printible Taiyo Yuden’s, it’s worth it.

May 29, 2009 at 3:52 am in reply to: DVCPro HD Quicktime movie not 960×720

That did work for Quicktime, but the Finder is still saying it is 1280×720, and Mocha is still saying that it is 1280×720 when I import it. Thanks for the advice though, it did make the video look the way I thought it would in Quicktime. Now I just have to figure out why everything is suddenly being interpreted as rectangle pixels instead of square ones like it used to. After Effects is seeing it as 960×720. I’ll keep messing with it and figure it out. Thanks again.

I am so sorry, I lied to you. When I double click the file in the finder, it opens it its own window in FCP, which shows up as 1280×720. When I import it back into my sequence, it does say that it is 960×720. What a pain in the ass. Now I just have to figure out how to get Mocha to see it as 960 instead of 1280. Thanks for the point in the right direction Walter, I appreciate the time.

I have tried viewing it in both. Even in the finder though (10.4.11), it says the original source file is 960×720, yet the output is 1280×720. When I open the original in Quicktime, it looks stretched vertically like I expect it to. Also, when I exported the file a few days ago to track in Mocha, Mocha told me that the file was 1280×720, and created an XML with a track in it that didn’t even come close to lining up with my original footage.

Getting my Mocha workflow is really my bigger concern long term. I am really excited to get into that program more and do some tracking, but I can’t see how well it works till I can get something that goes back into FCP correctly.

In the obscure category, I did know a fellow audio engineer that used to leave his firwire cables in the floor. One day he picked it up and some static electricity jumped from the carpet to the cable and fried his FireWire bus. Never heard of that again, but I did see it happen to one guy.

It’s not a video, but TNT is doing it a lot right now in their ads for the NBA playoffs. Try to find their commercials for that, they do a great job on those

Actually Tom, I have been keeping an eye on your site, and am very interested in your P2 reader that you are working on. I also am trying to find someone who sells those FujiFilm P2 cards. I’ll keep an eye open for ya, and probably get a box from you when it’s available. Keep us posted.

Oh let me count the ways.

First off, we are a two man company just getting into our 2nd year of business. We just bought the camera, 2 P2 cards and a Firestore drive. It’s a 3 camera shoot of a Jazz concert that SAYS it’s going to be 2 hours. Not sure how many of you are Jazz fans, but there is no way it’s going to stay at it’s alloted time. They want it in HD, so I’m cutting it at 720P/24PN to save as much space as possible. We had to rent the other 2 cameras, and one of them didn’t have any P2 cards, so our 2 are going in his camera. The “negotiated” payment for the gig is $1,000 less than we were hoping for (no, not thrilled, but we are really wanting some cool gigs to show off what we can do right now), and rentals already turned out to be more than we anticipated. After spending a few thousand on the camera and cards already, it just isn’t feasible for us to go spend a few more thousand on enough cards for 3 cameras to shoot for potentially 3 hours. Trust me, we have a plan that gets us 3 of our own cameras and a boatload of P2 cards, it’s just going to take us some time. If two of the cameras weren’t going to be handheld, I’d look more seriously at more Firestore drives, but I’m just not comfortable with that.

So, if anyone wants to donate some P2 cards to the cause, I’m in Nashville, TN. 🙂 Otherwise, I’ll just post it on YouTube and get you guys some links after the fact, cause I think it’s gonna be an amazing show. Hopefully I can do it justice. Thanks guys.

I had looked into that, but according to their website, it’s for Intel Macs only. I’m planning on getting a MacBook Pro in the very near future, but am borrowing someone’s Powerbook G4 in the meantime. Unfortunately, no P2CMS support. I thought since Shot Put Pro did so much, that I would be able to view the files after I transferred them, but I thought wrong apparently. You know what they say about assumptions…

I’m probably going to suck it up and install FCP only on this computer and see if I can just check the files in the Log and Transfer window to make sure they are video. Thanks for the reply though, that’s why I love this place.
