I’m somebody now – I’ve been insulted by Dr. Zelin. Woo Hoo!
Actually Chris, at the risk of ruining Bob’s reputation, he’s actually a nice guy. I know him both on-line here at the COW as well as have had the pleasure of hiring him to engineer and maintain my edit suites.
When reading his over-the-top comments, imagine him smiling and laughing – not scorning. Enough about Bob…
I do quite a bit of non-profit work and I can tell you that it very rewarding. The money is rarely what I can charge corporate clients, but many charities have a real need to communicate their story with emotion and passion to aid in their fundraising efforts. Since video is best at eliciting an emotional response in the viewer, it’s a match made in heaven. Here’s a piece we did for Make-A-Wish last year that I really like. It was played at a fundraising gala for an audience of about 1000 just before the MC did the “big ask.”

Getting the work? Well, as Bob said, that’s the hard part. The really hart part. Every market is different and I don’t know of any short cuts – but look forward to checking out your link. Most charities are so used to seeking out donations that their mindset is firmly in the “can you donate your service” camp. That’s a great way to get a foot in the door so that you can build a reel, but you obviously can’t live like that – unless you’re already independently wealthy.
And if that’s the case, well… then that’s different 😉
Best of luck to you! 391

Tim,
That was a nice trip down memory lane. I especially liked…
“We also have a hard time identifying with somebody calling $600 a crisis. We used to have to Media 100 $1000 just to get them to pick up the phone.”
I was that guy that was really pissed off that after paying ~$20k to “unlock” the XR features of Media100, I had to pay them extra to answer questions! But I survived… haha

June 10, 2013 at 3:44 pm in reply to: Mute (or solo) audio channel while viewing in Source Monitor?OK – never mind. I found the answer. Or at least “an” answer. There are “s” buttons below each track on the audio output meters. Click on the “s” below the track you want to isolate/solo it.
I’m still feeling my way around Premiere after years on FCP- so If there’s another approach please share!
Thanks,

Hi Vince,
I checked every file in the contents folder/subfolders and everything was set to read/write. I’ll try moving the files across the network onto a local drive to see if that makes any difference, but if there’s anything else i can check, I’d welcome the feedback.
thanks,

Chris,
I have 2 seats of CS6. One is a “Production Premium” box set and the other is CC. I have been able to move projects from one workstation to another without any issue – including the importing of timelines from one workstation into a new project on the other. I’ve only had 3 or 4 occasions (i.e. different projects) that I’ve done this for, so I wouldn’t call my experiences “definitive.” However, each has been without any significant issue.
The only thing that I did have happen on one of the projects was that when i moved it, my timeline dis-associated the audio track assignments. The media and clips were still there, it just wasn’t outputting the audio. The hint was that they turned red in the timeline.
It took us a while to figure out what happened but once I did it was just a matter of manually redo them. I had to select each clip (right click) and reset the track assignments. After doing a bunch of them individually, I realized that I could select a bunch at a time and do them all at once. It was just a minor annoyance – but I thought I’d mention it as I’ve heard that it has happened to others as well.
I hope this helps!

Jeff,
You’ve gotten a reasonably consistant answer from this community based on the facts presented in your post.
I tend to agree with those answers and believe that you are in the wrong here. You can rationalize all you want, but short of new, more complete or very different information, the opinions on this thread are unlikely to change.
If were in your position I would approach my friend, admit that I was wrong and apologize. Full stop.
After that apology and depending on my ability to repair the relationship and his willingness to discuss it, then (and only then) might I try to work something out that was mutually beneficial.Of course, what you choose to do moving forward is your business.
Best of luck to you!

Thats very interesting Mark!
We recently opened a LiveStream account that we’ll use for a webcasting contract we were just awarded. I thought about trying that but was concerned about networks ability/willingness to to integrate an IP based transmission into a live show. But now that you mention it, I see IP based interviews/broadcast all the time.
For example, during the presidential campaign I saw lots of streaming broadcasts – so I guess most of the networks are adept and feeding those streams into their switcher. And you’re right, the quality of the video is as much a function of production values as it is bandwidth.
Assuming we can get a good enough image to stream, are there any drawbacks to streaming instead of a satellite uplink?
In our facility, we have a 70/5 internet connection (70Mbps down and 5Mbps up). Brighthouse tells us that they’re preparing to upgrade our speed to 100/10 soon. We’ll do some testing using our LiveStream account to see how it looks, but I’d be interested in your take about upload bandwidth.
Thanks,

May 21, 2013 at 1:51 am in reply to: Sequence error or a cautionary tale about credit cards and Creative CloudThanks Kevin,
If it ever happens again, I’ll be sure to try that.
But I guess the lingering question remains – it coincided with the subscription issue and went away once I resolved the credit card issue.
And if it’s an activation issue, why wouldn’t the error message just say that? There appears to be something wrong under the hood?

May 19, 2013 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Sequence error or a cautionary tale about credit cards and Creative CloudHi Tim,
Yes, i agree that it’s a problem Adobe needs to look into. I haven’t had any contact with Adobe yet – as this all unfolded in the past few days. In all honesty, I don’t even who to contact.
Also, I’m not at all certain that it was an intentional cut-off. While I was searching for a solution, one of the things I did was to isolate the issue – to see if the problem was with the app itself, my project or a system problem on my computer. During that testing, I was able to launch Premiere, create a new project, edit footage, import a PSD graphic and export media – all without incident.
So that test threw me off the trail of it being either my computer or the application itself. I really thought that the issue as a corrupted project or sequence. I tried to import the sequence into a new project and that too didn’t work.
So if anyone from Adobe is reading this, feel free to contact me for more info. I’d love to hear from someone as to why/how this happened.
