Without knowing which computer you are editing with, I can suggest a few capture i/o devices that may or may not work with your system.

Matrox MXO2 products. If you do any exporting to h.264, I highly suggest the MAX option.

AJA I/O Express or Kona 3

Blackmagic card.

Do not downconvert. Always edit in HD.

As Rafael said, hard drives are very very inexpensive these days. Invest in them.

You need to double and triple check that your timeline is completely rendered. Go into your render settings and make sure all settings are checked.

So there is no confusion on your part, your capture drive and scratch disc are the same thing.

What you need to do is separate your system drive which includes your OS and Applications from your captured media.

Try completely rendering your timeline.

If you are new at this, please read the manual it is very helpful and gives you detailed instructions.

You can find it by selecting the HELP menu in FCP.

We are all on deadlines.

If they insist they want ProRes, 1, charge them accordingly or 2, give them the P2 files and have them convert to whatever codec they want.

Use Compressor. Export QuickTime Movie and drop that file into Compressor. Do a search for YouTube preset and go.

I have a Mac Pro tower and use the MXO 2 for monitoring. I output to a JVC DT-V20L monitor and also have an output to a 32 in. Vizio LCD Monitor.

I also have a 17″ MacBook Pro and connect the MXO2 via Express34 and in the near future Thunderbolt.
