Unfortunately there is no standard. A lot depends on years of experience, talent and the budget for the job. I’ve been editing for 25 years and I get anywhere from $450 a day to $1000 for an 8 hour day. That’s US Dollars.

One thing I would not do is give a flat rate. You will get screwed.

Listen to Shane. DO NOT USE UNCONTROLLABLE DEVICE. If you really want to find it, read the $@#*&! Manual. That would be under the Help Tab.

Make sure your settings are for NTSC and not the 1080 23.98 you think you want. You are just asking for trouble.

All this information is also in the manual. Read, read, read. Like Shane said, this is basic stuff.

FCP likes playing back FCP friendly codecs (DV/DVCPro, DVCPro HD and all flavors of ProRes) from external Firewire 800 minimum hard drives.

Editing with h.264 and other long GOP (HDV) codecs really take a toll on playback.

I own the HPX-500 and HPX-170. Looking to trade up to the HPX-250! Anybody need a 170?

I can agree what Ryan says about AVC-Intra for the HPX-370. On the other hand, The HPX-500’s 2/3″ chip is very nice. Great depth of field. You also get 4 independent channels of audio.

Either way, you are getting a great camera that will last a very long time. I would hold off purchasing anything until after NAB if possible.
