You can still the use the HPG20. If the client wants the footage immediately, have them rent P2 cards and they can take them with them. Another product is from a competitor, the AJA KiPro. Same applies, client can rent and take the hard drive with them.

A and R are the original P2 cards. They have an unlimited life. The E (economic) series was introduced a few years ago at a significant lower price point than the original A and R series. The E series will last 5 years if filled everyday and reformatted. Since many shooters do not shoot that much, expect the E series to last a very very long time.

I hope you are making money on this job. If so, rent some P2 cards, an external monitor and an experienced crew. This client WILL get what he pays for.

There are no magic scene files. A good external monitor will let you see exactly what the camera is shooting.

Same setup here. Have not installed the 3.0 version for the MXO2 (Media Composer). Still using 2.3.3 for Snow Leopard. It will be nice when Matrox will have an update version for both FCP and Media Composer.
FYI, v2.3.3 works with my Lion drive.

You can’t judge the look of your video from a computer monitor. You need an i/o device connected to a non-computer monitor to view it correctly. Any off the shelf tv at a retail store will do. A broadcast monitor even better.

The HPG20 is meant to be a playback and record device. You record to P2 cards and playback from P2 cards. While you can offload cards directly to a hard drive, you can not playback from the hard drive.

The goal here was to be able to feed directly from the HDD, while the cards were back in service for another shoot.”

Purchase more P2 cards to make this happen.

Before you ingest any of your footage into your computer, back it up. I repeat, back up your P2 cards to 2 different hard drives. These are your tape masters. Do not use your QuickTime files as your back up. Use the original data on the P2 cards. They hold much more metadata than the QT files.

Use your camera as the P2 card reader. Connect via USB. The program I mentioned above, ShotPutPro will make the offload process a breeze. Well worth the $99.

Click on P2 driver. Accept and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click on the small print for Mac.

I would not recommend offloading your P2 cards directly to a hard drive. Get yourself a P2 card reader (PCD2). Use ShotPut Pro from Imagine Products to help offload your cards to your hard drive. I believe in doing the the right way. This protects you and you client if something goes wrong.

Each airline has its own requirements. It is their discretion to allow you on-board. Looks like you are traveling alone. If not, distribute your gear. You will need to remove the lens’ for the 2 hpx370’s. Airlines are pretty strict when it comes to carry ons. International travel allows 2 checked bags. Petrol and Kata have the equipment you need for your cameras. Pelican cases for your accessories.

Protecting your gear is your first priority. Do what you have to at all costs.
If any of your gear is damaged, the airline WILL NOT pay for the damage.
