  • Noise in video only appears using certain computers

    Posted by Matthew Richie on February 8, 2012 at 1:25 pm

    Hi All,
    First time to post on the forums, but I’ve found many answers to questions in the past.

    We recently started using an HVX200, and for one project used an HPX3000, both shooting at 1080i and 30fps.
    When viewing the video from either on our macpro and imac, the video contains a lot of noise over a wide range of colors and levels of brightness. We’ve viewed it in final cut pro and quicktime player.
    But, when we view the video on a friends’ macpro the video is very clear.
    We also shoot video with a Canon 5d and it does not have the same problem.

    What settings might we have wrong with our computer to cause this?

    Sorry if this is answered elsewhere, but I have not found it.
    And thanks in advance for any help!

    What OS and QT version are you running on your machines? What are they running?

    You can’t judge the look of your video from a computer monitor. You need an i/o device connected to a non-computer monitor to view it correctly. Any off the shelf tv at a retail store will do. A broadcast monitor even better.

    imac= os 10.5.8 quicktime 7.7 FCP 7.0.3
    macpro= os 10.6.8 quicktime 7.7 FCP 7.0.3

    I haven’t been able to contact the owner of the third computer but will reply with his specs as soon as I hear back from him.

    So the difference is that the other machine isn’t as current with the FCP version? Odd.

    The low quality is when it is viewed in the FCP interface, right? Not on an external broadcast monitor? Because you know that the footage looks fine, you can just deal with the fact that it looks lower quality. Because the FCP interface was never intended to show full quality in the first place.
