March 22, 2006 at 9:02 pm in reply to: How does the JVC sr-vs30u (miniDV-SVHS) work with FCP?I will speak on behalf of many on this forum and recomend the Sony DSR-11. It will last you a far lot longer than any other DV deck out there. Spend the money once and use it a long time.

All drives will fail! Proper maintenance will prolong its life. What do you want Lacie to do? Give you a brand new drive? If it is under warranty they will. You and only you have many choices for hard drives and enclosures.
I hear your pain but offer no simpathy (please don’t take it personally). We all have had HD’s fail on us one time or another.

March 21, 2006 at 3:53 pm in reply to: FCP requiring that I render imported still imagesYou did not mention what format your stills were. JPEG, TIFF, etc. You also do not have your computer’s configuration. You will always have to render still images. Depending on your system, FCP version and RT Settings, you should be able to monitor your stills in realtime.

No and no. Your only solution is to upgrade. Everything that is. $200 is not a lot to spend for FCP5, Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2 and DVDSP 4.

Sony XDCAM HD uses long GOP MPEG 2 just like HDV. It has 3 different compression settings (can you say artifacts?). Call it a Professional version of HDV.
My vote is for the Panasonic! DV 25, DVCPro, DVCPro50 and DVCPro HD (Many Flavors) all in one package.

MiniDV (DV 25) only using tape. No conversion necessary to use in FCP, all formats.

Will,
I am not local but maybe I can help you out. I own 2 DSR-300A’s, 1 PD-170 and G4 Powerbook with FCP. Check out my my samples here: https://homepage.mac.com/sbeisen/
I don’t know what your budget is but similar events I have done have varied from $600 to $1000 a day portal to portal. Airfare from Chicago is around $250 RT.My father lives a couple of miles from your place. Next time I’m out there, maybe we could get together.
Hopefully you’ll consider my services.

It all depends on what type of business you want to have. ie. S Corp, LLC, etc. Fees vary for each business type. My advise is to hire a business attorney and a good accountant to help you out. Attorney should cost no more than $500. Accountant, priceless.
Make sure you send Jesse White (Sect. of State) his money each year!
