    Your Mirrored Door G4 should have FW 400 ports. Yes, you can use a FW800 (9 pin) to FW400 (6 pin) cable.

    Keep in mind that if you are capturing Uncompressed (I would recommend 8 bit), you need a very fast RAID. ProRes is an alternative.

    You want to capture to an EXTERNAL FW hard drive. Capturing to your MBPro’s hard drive will cause you problems in the long run.

    Even though your computer is very very outdated, you should be able to edit with your version of FCP.

    You need to trash your QuickTime Receipts to correct your problem.

    Yes you can. Use export using Quicktime conversion from within FCP. Compressor and QuickTime Pro can do it too. So many things FCP can do for Free!
