Can you export an mp3 from Final Cut?

Yes you can. Use export using Quicktime conversion from within FCP. Compressor and QuickTime Pro can do it too. So many things FCP can do for Free!

Since QT7 you can not export .mp3 from FC/QT.
You can export the FC audio as .aiff and import it to iTunes as .mp3
