    OSX 10.4
    Final Cut 4.5
    Quicktime 7.5

    Hi there,
I have recently had alot of problems capturing in Final Cut, which I have been told was a bug in 4.5 (wouldn’t capture, system froze, and after reboot, there was a 10GB file in Capture Scratch that really wasn’t a file. . .)

So, I have upped the RAM to 1.5GB; gone to OSX 10.4. Now, Final Cut will not even recognize numerous DV cameras for any kind of capture. (They do work in iMovie, so it’s not a bad firewire cord or slot). Upon starting Final Cut, I immediately get the message that it cannot detect a firewire device. . .but it’s right there, connected and everything.

When I had the earlier problems, it would at least recognize the device.

There’s nothing in User Preferences that would seem to help me, as Final Cut needs to see the device upon opening.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    PS
I have been told that FCP 5.0 might be as high as I can go on this machine, especially given the system and limited RAM. Any comments?

Even though your computer is very very outdated, you should be able to edit with your version of FCP.

You need to trash your QuickTime Receipts to correct your problem.

I think you have the wrong version of Quicktime. The last version of quicktime to work properly with FCP 4.5 was probably QT v 6.5 or 7.0.
