I’ve upgraded to the Production Suite. AE is quicker, but I’m on a new
system, so it’s hard to quantify. However, I am having audio issues.
Playing back from PREVIEW is erratic. It takes 3-5 playback loops to get audio to lock. My work around of adding an audio effect helps some, but I’ve had some renders with the audio either missing in sections and/or moving up & down the timeline. I am able to render out separate audio files with success and re-combined in FCP.
I haven’t tried changing from .aiff to .wave as has been suggested. Upgrades are a pain, but I knew that going in.

Thanks Joe for the info, I can’t find any help either on the web or at Adobe.
I don’t use Open GL within AE, but I never had this issue until I made the AE CS3 upgrade.
I’ll try trashing the preference file and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks Dave, but OSX 10.4.10 is not Leopard.

Sorry, my bad. I meant to say AE CS3.

I also have been getting the audio error messages. Updating to BlackMagic 6.4 drivers helped
(reduced the frequency) but did not eliminate the problem. I use AIFF only, and it doesn’t matter what is selected in Preferences (Line Out or DeckLink) The error message comes
after a RAM Preview playback and says “UNABLE TO START AUDIO HARDWARE” This started
ONLY after updating to CS3, and was especially frequent using BlackMagic 5.6. I’m on a
Mac Pro Quad (PPC) 2.5, 8.5 gigs Ram, FCP 2.0, CS3, BlackMagic DeckLink Extreme.

Thanks for responding! I’m curious as to why your post got no response from Blackmagic…
have you been in touch with them directly?

Did you resolve your FCP6 and Decklink issues? I’m getting ready to make the same upgrade
(G5 Quad -PPC and Decklink Extreme) and was looking thru the COW for potential problems.

I had same issue, but worked around by saving RAM preview, then used normal Render settings for interlaced output.
