  • upgrade to FCP6- kills my decklink

So, a client brought in a 1/2 finished project in FCP6 the other day, so I was finally forced to upgrade to FCP6 to continue his work. So far, so good. Except that FCP6 and the Decklink do NOT get along. I’m on a dual 2 gig G5 w/ PCI-X slots. Been using the decklink for years (I have two, in fact), and as soon as I upgradaed to FCP6, I also upgraded my blackmagic drivers to the latest “Universal” ones on their website. After that, FCP would crash every two seconds, the output flickered and zoomed in and out, and after 30 minutes or so of that, FCP wouldn’t even open anymore without crashing immediately. The only thing that would eneable me to work in FCP6 (or even open FCP6 period) anymore was to remove the blackmagic codec from my quicktime folder. Then, at least I could work in FCP6 again. But there’s absolutely no working with FCP 6 and Blackmagic together on my PPC G5. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you resolve your FCP6 and Decklink issues? I’m getting ready to make the same upgrade
(G5 Quad -PPC and Decklink Extreme) and was looking thru the COW for potential problems.

No, I didn’t. Audio output is still wonky, and the only way 720p 24 footage plays back is if my decklink settings are set up to play out 1080. Then at least it doesn’t crash. But audio is still scratchy and unlistenable at times. I had to go back to FCP 5.1. And I’m keeping my FCP disks in the desk drawer until it’s resolved in a future update.

Thanks for responding! I’m curious as to why your post got no response from Blackmagic…
have you been in touch with them directly?
