Vimeo has a page on compression guidelines on their sites plus video tutorials showing you exactly how to do it – do a search on their site or on Google

Well what you seem to be thinking makes a great deal of sense to me:

    1. Use a wide angle lens for a more stable image

    2. Use a prime lens since you are not going to be adjusting the lens while filming anyways

    3. Get a lens with the best image stabilization you can afford

I would say brand does matter but to what extent is unclear. For instance, I use Transcend which is a known, respected company but is not on the first tier of SD manufacturers where you find companies like SanDisk, Kingston etc.

To be honest, the cards always FEEL to be a weak link in my production chain, may because they are so small. IF they fail you are pretty much screwed although some have had limited success using disc recovery services. Sometimes you may not even know you’ve had a failure until its too late. Ideally I playback every shot on my camera after its recorded but in the real world that doesn’t happen 100% of the time – it’s a risk I live with.

Check out the free audio editing program Audacity which is actually quite powerful for a free program – available for mac, pc and even Linux I think

  • Yeo that is how it is supposed to work – it is saving that other now blank channel for the 4th audio source which you are not using. Very easy to fix during editing either by turning that single audio track into a stereo track or by simply copying and pasting it into another track and making the twin tracks stereo.

  • Yeah I think it is because the Rode adapter is set up for a mono signal from the mini plug coming off the lav versus a stereo input.

Have you played back the video in camera to see if the streak is there before transferring it out to the hard drive?

Not to ask too stupid a question, but when you say the GH2 goes “off” do you just mean that the LCD screen is dark/off or that the whole camera shuts down and nothing is working.

If the former, it sounds like some setting having to do with external monitoring capabilities is interfering with LCD viewing – I use the Canon T2i so I am not familiar with the GH2 but that’s where I would start looking

Oh, I just found this info on another “tab” of the web site for this camera:

” A new Multi Interface Shoe allows attachment of an optional XLR adapter kit for even more sound-capture versatility.”

I couldn’t find any mention of XLR mic inputs on this camera…was it just not included on the Web page but is present on the camera?
