  • Best Lens For Glidecam HD4000?

Posted by Joel Dalls on October 25, 2012 at 10:33 pm

    Hi,
I just invested in an HD 4000 Glidecam and will be using a 5D MK III with it.

I am looking at either the Tokina 11-16 or one of the wide Canon Primes.

However, wouldn’t the lower end 2.8 Canon 24mm with IS be the best choice due to its image stabilization?

    Thanks

Well what you seem to be thinking makes a great deal of sense to me:

    1. Use a wide angle lens for a more stable image

    2. Use a prime lens since you are not going to be adjusting the lens while filming anyways

    3. Get a lens with the best image stabilization you can afford

I prefer using a 14mm canon L series with IS.

That would be my first choice as well, but I have read in online forums that IS counteracts and actually is detrimental to stabilizers.

Do you disengage IS? Or do you use IS and experience an improvement – rather than a negative effect – in the video?
