Sony have NEVER been very interested in their users or keeping them informed about what they are doing. I love the kit but don’t like the company very much. Same is pretty much true of Apple as well. JVC and Panasonic have a much better idea about how to treat their customers.

I think the P2 vs HDV thing is already starting to get a bit tedious. Lots and lots of uniformed comments from people who have used neither system.

As far as the 200 goes it’s all theory isn’t it? The camera doesn’t exist yet, you can’t say what the picture quality is going to be like until there are actually pictures to look at.

P2 fits a market sector, HDV fits another with some crossover in the middle. You use what format is best for the job!

Q4 release date means full specs aren’t set in stone yet perhaps?

I entirely disagree with that Adolfo, in my company HDV fits in our workflow exactly where DV used to.

Another thing to bear in mind we haven’t SEEN the quality of the Panasonic camera yet. We know it will be better than the Z1 of course but until
we can actually see pictures, it is all theory.

I am only basing my opinions on “real world” experience, the pictures from our Z1 have been outstanding, with very few problems, certainly no more than we had with DV.

Fact us it’s all good isn’t it? more choice for everyone.

[Adolfo Rozenfeld] “On the other hand, seriously, if DVCPRO HD (and DV50 SD!!!) will be around in a $6000 camera, who wants 25 Mpbs MPEG-2 HDV? “

$6000 PLUS expensive P2 Media, it is certainly more expensive than HDV and it doesn’t record to low cost tape.

Given the choice I would shoot HDCam SR every time, but it all comes down to cost.

HDV is “entry level” HD, the new Panasonic camera is a step up in quality AND price.

HD now has something for everyone.
