    If you use the Apple or third Party uncompressed codecs, you get real time playback, some configurations will give you RT colour correction in 8 bit uncompressed.

    We get round this by Offlining using the DVCPro HD codec which gives you loads of real time effects and multistream playback and is almost identical visually to uncompressed. Then when the edit is finished we recapture to uncompressed and render transitions and effects.

    99% of the time the client doesn’t even spot the difference in quality!

  • HD playback is real time in FCP, there must be a problem with your settings somewhere, probably in the codec, can you list your exact settings for the Quicktime file you created, I think you would need to select the Apple Uncompressed Codec rather than no compression in orderto get the RT.
