So now that Premiere is back on the Mac and Avid is also back, perhaps FCP is not so important to Apple anymore.

I have to disagree Tim, I can’t see the sale of Pro-Apps being a good thing at all and I hope you are wrong. In fact I’m in the middle of a flurry of e-mails to see if I can get an official denial out of Apple!

Question is would the whole suite continue to be developed or would Thomson just concentrate on the higher end of the market and dump some of the other elements.

I would imagine the price would rise as FCPS would no longer be subsidised to sell more Macs.

As competitors to Sony and Panasonic, would they get the same level of co-operation with them as far as integrating codecs etc, I seriously doubt it.

Would they be keen to sell software to people like me who have no interest in buying ANY Thomson kit to support the software.

Personally I don’t care about FCP taking on Avid in the high end environment, it doesn’t affect what I do and I suspect it doesn’t affect the vast majority of FCP users.

I would be very unhappy about a sale to Thomson at this stage, I desperately hope the rumours are untrue.

You make a good point – sometimes Apples OTT secrecy doesn’t help at all. I’m going to buy the Adobe Suite soon just to get Blu Ray as well – very frustrating considering Apple are a member of the Blu Ray Consortium and they have done nothing. I can understand a long delay in releasing software that supports the advanced BR features but I would have expected basic BR support by now.

People are extrapolating a lot of information from one missed trade show!

Apple aren’t stupid, Pro-apps sell Mac Pros, the margin on them is LARGE, and it makes them money, no question, so why would they sell?
