There is still a render out with XDCam I’m afraid, but you can still master out to HDCam in realtime via HDSDI

[walter biscardi] “Doubt it, you’re still working in a lousy long GOP heavily compressed format.

Ah the long GOP myth being trotted out for a bit of a run again! been using long GOP with XDcam HD for a while now with Zero problems, I’m looking forward to using the new 422 50mb flavour as well.

And yes you could use this codec to replace ProRes as your HDV render codec.

Sony are clearly serious about this format, apart from the very nice EX3 there are other new products that help with the workflow and soon you’ll be able to master back to the U1 in 50mb 422!

I’m sure that will follow shortly, Sony haven’t yet released their NAB announcements 🙂

Both native XDcam HD and EX files play in a 422 timeline with no rendering at all!

The XDCam codecs for this camera have now appeared in Final Cut, there is a 24p, 25 and 30P version of it!

BTW this now gives you a great mastering codec to use for your EX/XDCam HD material.

EX clips only work on the latest FCP, no way around it I’m afraid.

  • Is this not something us PAL users would have spotted some time ago? Can’t replicate this at all on my system. I think you have a system issue somewhere I don’t think it’s a “bug”

No point at all in the 3.0 over the 2.8 get the NVidia Graphics card and more RAM instead

One thing I would say is that FCP is much stronger in the HD realm than PPro at the moment with better support for more HD codecs and workflows.

Beyond that flip a coin, they both have their strengths and weaknesses in equal measure.
