Not everyone is making money from YouTube, but some are
One of my 14 year old cousins recently pointed me at some of the shows they watch on YouTube, they aren’t sophisticated, there certainly isn’t Hollywood production values but they are getting millions of views and this makes money.
I have a YouTube Channel as a hobby, I re-edit some of the material we sell on DVD and upload it, I’ve had 2 million views this year and the Google Ad money paid for our family holiday.

Apple have clearly decided to go in a different direction, they have a plan,they wouldn’t be Apple if they didn’t.
I’m glad they have, I may be unusual but on the whole I like the new interface, I am working on a number of projects at the moment including a couple on PPro and I much prefer working in FCPX, despite it not being a “proper edit system”
However if I didn’t like it then PPro would be a completely natural upgrade from FCP7, it’s a great piece of software.

That’s an interesting thought, one of FCPXs big strengths is the speed you can get through footage in the event library, I can log and sort in it quicker than any other NLE I’ve used.

You should stay with your original frame size and reduce when you export.
