I would make the PIP layers a group and add the mask to that group. Then I would put one layer of the person above that and key the person.

in Motion 4 using the Bezier Mask Tool. The problem is that the edge is very sharply defined. If I adjust the “feather” slider it will move the mask larger or smaller, but still with a hard line separation…….. Is this possible in Motion? I couldn’t even find a way of doing it in After Effects.

I can’t think of a way to do that in Motion. Other then to move your control points once the feather is changed. However, in After Effects change the Mask Expansion and that will increase or decrease the size of the mask. Best of luck.

Can you take a still grab and cut out one of the feathers in Photoshop and then animate the feather falling from the sky?

A layer by default starts at zero seconds. Can you move the layer so it starts at say 12 frames. So it is not visible until you want to see it.

I would put all of the layers in a group and animate the group. Then you can animate the layer that has the top separately so it can fly away from the rest of the objects. Hope this helps.

Once you completed the steps above. Make sure the content is in a 3D group. Change the X Rotation of the Circle to say -64. Add your person to the group and the image connected to the Motion Path will rotate in front and behind of the person. Hope this helps.

This is obviously much easier to do when the feather or hair is shoot in front of a well lit green or blue background. In this situation I would try the Luma Key or the Color Key. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
