[Tracy] I think as PROFESSIONALS, we need to stop discouraging the people wanting to get into this business and help them learn how to get along in it.
What sparked this? I think that is what make the COW such a great resource. You can get your questions answered by seasoned pros, read article written by top professionals in the trenches and watch a ton of free tutorials to help improve your craft. In the majority of cases these people are not getting payed but doing it to help others out. Final Cut Studio 2 was released April 2007. Final Cut Studio 1 was released April 2005. Final Cut Pro 4 was released April 2003. I’m thinking there is a trend there and there is a reason you have not seen a new version of Final Cut yet. Final Cut won’t be at NAB so your guess is as good as mine, but I would imagine you will see a new version in a few months. Not like I know Steve Jobs or something.

I know a number of business owners/managers that don’t fit that description at all.
Sure, especially in today’s business climate it is true about the majority but there are many fair-minded people that run businesses also. ”I agree. I chose to work for the company I work for because I feel the owner is very fair-minded. I’ve worked with the gang at the COW and I chose to work with them over their competitors because they are fair-minded. Henry Ford was able to get some of the best employees because of how he treated them. But at the end of the day, like Grinner said, you’re worth what you say you are.
Sorry to get side tracked, Grinner, I loved your article in the magazine.

In addition to what has already been written. Clients never have their logo broken into layers. If I get the logo as a .jpg or a single layer Photoshop document I can’t animate the individual pieces. So I ask for logos in a .eps formate so I can work with it in Illustrator and brake it into individual pieces as I see fit. That way I can create layers in Illustrator and then send it to Photoshop, thus maintaining individual control over the layers when it gets to Motion or After Effects. I’m not an expert in Illustrator but I’m using it to work with files all the time. If your going to buy Photoshop then why not buy Photoshop and Illustrator in a bundle.

I personally never use drop zones. I find that it is easier to turn a clip into a drop zone via hovering a new clip on the old until I get the hooked shaped arrow. Then it is not locked into an aspect ratio. Where as the Drop Zone will crop an image that is a different aspect ratio by default…you have to go into the Crop option in the properties tab to fix that…which as you said is a pain.

Some times when you create a Clone Layer in 3D space it will revert the clone layer position back to Zero. Make sure all of the position settings are the same and that is probably your problem. Hope this is the fix your looking for.

I don’t have Motion 1 so you may not have these Behaviors. I would use the Throw or Move Behavior. For best control use the HUD (it has a different name in Motion 1) Hit F7. The Throw will work best for what you want.
Hit F1 to open up the Properties tab. To key frame the movement move the image and playhead to where you want it to start. Click on the Record Button to turn on the keyframe recording. Move the playhead to where you want the animation to end and move the position. There are a lot more ways to do it but this is the easiest to explain. Hope this helps.
