I know this isn’t the answer you are looking for but I would back it up on an LTO tape instead. Hard drives are not good long term storage solutions and actually need to be turned on occasionally to keep the magnetics in the hard drive operational. LTO tapes are rated to last 30 years.

  • I have about 100 clips up on Pond5 and only about 10 of them have sold. And only 3 of them sell regularly. I imagine the more you have the more likely you are to sell. Keep in mind if it is just a variation of the same clip then it won’t help you to post a million of them. I think I average around $300 a year. Hope this information helps and best of luck.

I first touched After Effects in 1997 but didn’t really learn it until version 4. The person interviewing you might have been confused because back in the early 2000s the motion graphics were very expensive to create and in many ways quite simple. What you can build today in After Effects would have blown my mind in 2000. Which is why most people who do motion graphics full time only have about 2-7 years worth of experience. This demonstrates the adolescence of our motion graphics industry and possibly why he couldn’t believe that After Effects was created in 1993.

I have to say I love the future and I’m so grateful I get to create videos for a living. I started out in a newsroom editing deck to deck on BETA SP and I would never go back to those days.

October 18, 2019 at 9:45 pm in reply to: RAID setup for 4k editing- Advice sought!

The big reason you want to go with a RAID is because it offers you protection. Imagine if one of our current drives fail. All that hard work is gone forever. A RAID is set up to have a redundant drive so if one fails you don’t lose anything. You just put in a new drive to replace the bad one and it is business as usual.

Since you are on an iMac with Thunderbolt 2 I would recommend this RAID for $919.75. I have one and love it. OWC tech support is the best in my opinion. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1078687-REG/owc_other_world_computing_owctb2srt12_0s_thunderbay_4_12tb_72_4_bay.html

If you want to futur proof you can purchase a Thunderbolt 3 drive and then also get a dongle to convert the cable to Thunderbolt 2.

Hope this helps and best of luck.

June 24, 2019 at 11:05 pm in reply to: Any opinions on the MacPro first look today?

I don’t have any docs for our iMacPro’s. We have a server that connects our computers. Because of the server, it takes up 1 ethernet port so I have a Belkin USB Type-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter for the internet. DaVinci Resolve dongle eats up a USB port plus connecting to my second monitor. But because we are on a server I don’t have a million hard drives hooked to the computer so I typically always have 1 USB and Thunderbolt ports available. That being said, on my old (2015) iMac available ports was always a problem. So I agree, 2 ethernet ports would be way better. I have to say, I love the screen that you get included with an iMacPro. It will stink to have to purchase the MacPro and a kick butt monitor.

I think it looks cool. I have to say, I love my iMac Pro which comes with a great monitor. Has anyone done any comparisons between the iMac Pro and the iMac? I guess we have to wait until you can price out the computer to really get an apple to apple comparison on the apple.

Do you have any samples of what you are trying to do? I don’t quite understand what you are asking for.
