Yes, you will need to conform your 60fps in Cinema Tools. It does a great job. Be forewarned that it conforms your original clip. It doesn’t make a copy. If you need to keep your original keep that in mind. As for everything that is at it’s normal frame rate such as 29.97 feel free to just drop it in the timeline. Best of luck.

I agree with Chris. In addition to what he recommends…depending on the footage you may have lots of un-rendered footage. If that is the case, check out this Final Cut Pro tutorial on playing un-rendered clips with out rendering them. Best of luck.

Why are you holding on a three minute clip? Or is it because that 3minute clip is an edited piece? If it is an edited piece just end the project on a hard cut that is easy to put the 3 minute project up to the motion project. Hope that is what you are looking for. Best of luck.

If you go with the 3 camera idea be sure to use a morphing plug-in to help go from one clip to the other. It will look a little funny.
You can always go with the 2d photo in a 3D environment look. Like this 3D photo move video I did:

For a Motion Design Reel I would showcase everything to show range. If they are interested in only one aspect of Motion Design such as 3D animation then they can always ask for more. I think viewing reels on the web is becoming more and more common. I think it is best to give options. But I have to say, I personally prefer to look at reels online. A matter of fact, the COW will let you put an HD reel up on this very site.

The Swamp People effect is called “bullet time” made famous by the Matrix. To do this effect you need a lot of cameras. Check out this video that shows bullet time with surfing, it is really cool:

As for the other video, you achieve this effect by creating a still, separate the foreground images from the back ground images in a program like Photo shop. Then separate the layers z distance and add a camera move. Hope this helps and best of luck.

You should not need to use keyframes for the “Set Speed” behavior. Here is a tutorial that mentions how to use the set speed behavior in it.
