I’ve trying to justify purchasing Newton, but I just don’t have a good enough reason… yet. I’m working on it though!

I ended up tweaking it a bit more and still using the digital version. The “real” deal would have been much easier but it wasn’t the stylized look I was going for, it would have been too real.

That’s a great idea about the chain link fence scenario. I’ve done that (or similar) for other projects. Shoot real close or in a setting that fits your context and the audience will usually go along with you. We MIGHT try that for this project but I think we’ll probably just rework it so the location and visuals are not critical.

We’re located in Wisconsin. Because it’s a “commercial” video (not a documentary or news) we’ve decided to play it safe and not film it. At this point it’s not an important enough location or visual to pay a lawyer.

As for the pixelation, I think you’ll get that no matter what because you’re upscaling. What size is “web size”?

Thanks Ted. I thought about shooting it for real since it would be much easier, however in this case I want it to be a bit more stylized. The final effect will actually be a letter of text (black text on black bg) that gets filled with beer to reveal the text. I figured it would be easier to go for a “glass” of beer first, then use the text as an alpha track matte.

In any case, I figured out how to use a track matte to contain the bubbles which I just moved up as the beer filled it up. Here’s my first attempt which is more or less the general effect I was going for. It’s not perfect but I think it gets me a good base to start playing around with.

If at the end of the day I need to shoot real beer I’ll at least know now how to use the foam effect… which I’ve never touched before.

Wow, that’s crazy! So, just for my education, what would have happened if you didn’t have permits? Would they simply say “leave” or would there have been actual fines/consequences? Researching this it looks like one actually can be fined and equipment confiscated, at least in big cities.

Now the good news for me, we won’t be filming in Vegas or any other big/busy location 🙂 It’s pretty low key.

Thanks Mark, that’s what I thought about the school.

So, is there a specific licenses I am looking for? It would of course be installed on only 1 system (on the edit system) but would be used in an end product available both online and closed circuit TV. Is there such a thing as “Broadcast Use” or such? I’m probably overthinking this but just want to play it squeaky clean.
