February 26, 2015 at 11:30 pm in reply to: Are there any cost effective alternatives to a san that operate like a san?Hi Mark,
My name is Stephen McKenna and I am the Sales Manager for SNS, makers of SANmp. As Bob mentioned, in Bob’s way 😉 , we have some incredibly affordable solutions that offer Avid Bin/Project Sharing very similar to a Unity/Isis. Our servers also include unlimited licenses of SANmp and GlobalSAN. Feel free to give me a call @ 314-733-0551, or shoot me a message here on CCOW and we can link up.

Hi Michael,
As David said, video editing over NAS protocols can be tricky. At SNS we offer a wide range of solutions to help turn your existing NAS hardware into a SAN (this typically provides for a 20%-30% improvement in speed out of your existing hardware), as well as providing workflow enhancements for every major NLE on the market. We have worked with many schools over the years to do exactly what you are describing in the most cost effective way possible. Please feel free to give me a call at 314-775-8727 to discuss your project. Thanks

January 23, 2013 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Configuring a Central Server with RAID for our EditorsHi Jim,
I work for Studio Network Solutions (SNS) and based on your description I think our EVO server would fit perfectly into your environment. We have been designing SAN solutions for the media industry for 15 years now, and our products really shine in the kind of mixed environment you are describing. We have multiple solutions starting at well under $10,000.
EVO works seamlessly with FCP/Premiere/Avid as well as any other production application you may use. All of your editors will be able to share footage and work simultaneously. EVO can also support uncompressed HD/2k playback in real time. You mentioned having one Media Composer suite, if you choose to go with more Avid in the future EVO also features native Avid Bin/Project Sharing – at no extra cost.
We can mix and match multiple network topologies as well (i.e. 1GbE/10GbE, 4/8 Gb Fibre Channel) all within the same box. You can even add and/or change topologies as your needs evolve, for instance the EVO could start with GbE only and then add Fibre Channel or 10 GbE later down the road.
In addition the EVO could easily direct connect all of your current users over any of the network topologies listed above without the need for a costly switch. You can direct connect up to 8 x Fibre Channel clients or 16 x GbE clients or 12 x 10GbE clients.
If you would like to learn more about our systems or have any other general media SAN questions I would love to hear from you. I can also put you in touch with any of our existing clients for a reference or more guidance on your project. Please feel free to contact me at 314-775-8727.
Sincerely,
Stephen McKenna

Hi Eduardo,
As many here have already mentioned shared storage for video is a very different animal than a simple IT file server. We at Studio Network Solutions (SNS) have been manufacturing shared storage solutions for media production for 15 years now. SNS is intimately familiar with the production cycle of reality TV, our clients include some of the largest and prominent reality production houses in the world. I can put you in contact with any of them if you would like a reference or some additional guidance. Our servers can support GbE/10 GbE or Fiber Channel, you can even mix and match all of these connectivities in one box providing the maximum in system flexibility. We strive to partner with our clients for the long haul by supplying systems for today while maintaining an easily scalable architecture allowing your purchase to grow with you as your needs evolve in the future.
If you would like to learn more about our products or would just like to talk about media SAN deployments in general, please feel free to give me a call at 314-775-8727.
Sincerely,
Stephen McKenna

Hi Dennis,
Not sure what FibreJet is going for these days, but last I heard it was $999 USD/seat. In contrast, SANmp for fiber is $499 USD/seat and iSANmp (used for 1/10Gb iSCSI-only environments) is only $199 USD/seat. Also, when you purchasing our shared storage server EVO, you get unlimited licenses of SANmp.
Studio Network Solutions (SNS) has thousands of installs of SANmp in over 30 countries. If you would like some more information on our products or services, I would love to chat with you, feel free to give me a call anytime at 314-308-0991
