It strikes me less annoying than unprofessional. YouTube makes sense because its audience is much larger and diverse. But a pro forum shared mostly with other pros will just be annoying.Steve Mann

If there is any metal that you can touch, then the third prong is probably mandated. Your Sony TV is likely all plastic on the outside. The third, longer prong is for safety. It does not carry any current in normal use. If it does then you have a ground fault. If the device is plugged into a GFI outlet (Ground Fault Interrupter) then just a few microamps of current on this wire will open the circuit. GFI receptacles are required in wet environments like the bathrooms, kitchen and outdoor outlets.
If you have an older home with only two-blade receptacles, you should consider an upgrade. Most home fires are electrical in origin, and the upgrade is a selling feature. If you’re lucky the outlets are wired with 3/14 or 3/12 Romex cable. All you need to do then is replace the receptacle. (Make sure the ground wire is really connected to a ground stake or cold water pipe near the breaker box.) If your outlets only have two wires (2/14 or 2/12 Romex), then you need to run a ground wire to each outlet that you want to protect.
My niece has a really, really old house built when the light bulb was advanced technology. She had glass-tube insulators with bare wires in her crawl space, attic and walls. She bought the house cheap and sold all the glass insulators on E-Bay to collectors.

Yes, but I could always retire an old PC and reinstall the OS on another PC and activate it online. you won’t be able to do that with 10.

July 12, 2015 at 2:55 am in reply to: Vegas 13 Render Engine Still Not Usable for Production WorkI buy the upgrades as they come out, even mid project. Never a problem. (Well there was that text problem in 10, but Sony fixed it pretty quickly).
Of course, I don’t try using GPU. I firmly believe that GPU support should default off. Turn it on when you are satisfied that everything else is working.Another tip I have – never overclock your editing PC.

I can’t remember the last time I bought a PC already built. I always bought the retail version of Windows, but as I understand 10, it is only available online and when you install it, you have to let the PC Phone Home to activate the license, and be locked to the PC. You can do an acronis backup and there are instructions floating about for making an ISO disc, but once activated, the license will only work on that machine, in that configuration of processor and motherboard.

Windows 10 will be “on the cloud” like the MAC O/S. Also, like the MAC, it will be locked to the PC. With current Windows discs, you can replace your whole PC and reinstall windows on the new one. Starting with Windows 10, if your PC dies, your license for Win10 also dies. You will have to buy another license.
I really wonder how outfits like Ziff-Davis (various tech magazines) or CPU Magazine will handle this. They build setups on the bench to run tests. They may go through multiple GPUs, multiple processors, different memory configurations, all of which may trigger a requirement for a new O/S license.

You don’t need the ground wire. If there is no exposed metal which would be connected to the ground wire, then your risk is very minimal.

The only versions that will not upgrade for free are Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Probably because those are already on volume licensing.
Microsoft has already said that any drivers written for Win 7 and Win 8 should work on Win 10. If you are using drivers written for Vista that happen to work in Win 7 or 8, you may be out of luck.
Gone is the ability to replace the CPU or motherboard and reinstall Windows. The license is now tied to the hardware. Change the Motherboard and you need to buy a new license.
I do believe that Microsoft is moving to a subscription model.

There’s definitely something wrong with the file. I couldn’t open it in Vegas 11 or 13.
Sorry. do you have backups or did you save the .veg.bak files?Steve Mann
