What else I have:
i5 – 2500k
4×4 DDR3 1333
Intel P67 1155

So seeing how things are just a tad more expensive around here and we don’t really get promotions like you guys (Black Friday, Christmas etc), I’ve narrow to these choices:

GTX 660
and
Radeon 7850

What are your thought on using effects in Vegas (my understanding is that “levels”, “color correction” etc are all considered effects); what will be better for those or is it the general rule, whichever is better for rendering will be better for rendering the effects?
Should I except a worse GPU acceleration that with my GTX 460 with any of the ones I shortlisted?
In computing power (according to AnandTech, thanks Norman!) 7850 is better that the GTX ?

I know it’s not super complicated but it just seems too much work for little result (they cut every 2-7 seconds).

There are battle scenes as well – do you think they are using some kind of game engine to do this?
I’ve noticed that some of the scenes are photos with 3D characters.

Apart from that it was a TV production with hundreds of episodes (not long but considering how ofter they cut…) in 2007 (or so the credits tell me) – it just seems like a HUGE investment if it has to be animated the more classical way even using generators and such.

I’ve watched another production by STAR MEDIA – they pretty advanced, it’s amazing what they did with some WW2 photos.

Not to distort the image you need to use track motion – which is moving the layer anywhere on the screen/zooming in without cropping (not to be confused with motion tracking)

Thank you for the detailed explanation – I’ve been using K-lite with Sony Vegas since version 8 and I’ve never had a problem like that before, so I never had a reason to delete it and hand pick my codecs.

About this particular mp4 – I’ve uninstalled K-lite and reinstalled Sony Vegas – the result is the same total crash

This is the interesting part – the video now plays, both in Quick Time and in Firefox (just dragged and dropped it there, not streaming) out of sync just like it did when I converted it and played it in Vegas!

Could it be something wrong with the particular video ?

The video was already edited and from the looks of it the person didn’t know much about what they were doing (almost 2/3 of the screen is black and there’s a little box in the middle with the video inside lol) can’t tell you whether it was edited on Mac or PC

No, Vegas’ Levels and After Effects Levels are not the same.

In After Effects Levels analyses the footage and presents it in a form of graph where you can manually adjust sliders to make a underexposed or overexposed footage better

I know about curves and I know how to use them – the biggest problem is that I do not know how a proper footage should look like in terms of color, gamma, etc
Meaning I do not have anything set in my mind to try and match the footage in Vegas to it.
