You shouldn’t be saving your footage on the computer where your AVID software is located. You should be saving it to an external source. If you’re editing on a personal computer, purchase a large external hard drive that runs at least 7200 in speed and put your footage on that. Then import your files to your project. Or you can AMA link to the footage and edit straight from the hard drive without importing, which I have done. A hard drive of this speed will keep up with a live edit.

All raw footage takes time to ingest. Quicktimes will come in fast.

April 18, 2012 at 11:34 pm in reply to: Media composer 5.5.2 project corrupted ( video included)I have not had this particular problem. However, I’ve had corrupted files. You might try going into the Attic and finding the timeline the layed before the corruption. It should be saved from a couple of weeks ago…pick the version before the last one. That would be a good place to start.
You can also try playing each video line one by oe. Put the TV icon on V1..and see if it plays. If it does…that line isn’t the problem.
Move up to V2 etc. Often titles and effects are the source of corruption. I’ve had AVID FX corrupt a timeline too. You can often find it by doing the “layer by layer” approach until the timeline won’t play. Then you know the corruption is on that line. But the attic could save you. -
Glad you found an answer! Thanks Mr. Hancock!

Excellent information! I didn’t know this. Why oh why has editing become so difficult. So many settings, so many hiccups. That’s why we need these forums to keep us all informed! It’s incredibly hard to keep up these days.

It now sounds more like an issue with how your audio is coming out of your AVID. Clearly it’s there. Can you hear any other audio? Have you brought in a test quick time from something else just to see if you can hear it? I’m throwing darts here…but just don’t know if you have been able to hear anything else.
Are you using external speakers? A board? -

Could be dealing with a bit rate issue and what version of Media composer you are using. First, check a quick simple thing. Make sure the speaker is not “off” where the Audio tool is showing the volume is indeed playing. Now, check the bit rate of the audio you shot. In your MC bin under the settings tab, go to audio project. There are two settings there for 16 and 24 bit audio. This may be the issue if it doesn’t agree with your native audio bit rate. If it doesn’t, re-import the clip at the native bit rate of your clip and try that. Gee, I hope this works! I’m running out of helpful advice!
