Hi I am working on a HD project and was seeing if there is a way that I can compress the files of the HD footage I am using so it will not take as much room up on my computer. I don’t want to loss quality but I need to save room on my computer with all the footage saved on my computer when editing on Avid.

You shouldn’t be saving your footage on the computer where your AVID software is located. You should be saving it to an external source. If you’re editing on a personal computer, purchase a large external hard drive that runs at least 7200 in speed and put your footage on that. Then import your files to your project. Or you can AMA link to the footage and edit straight from the hard drive without importing, which I have done. A hard drive of this speed will keep up with a live edit.
