Also, our Canon (XHA1) won’t “take” the output settings (downconvert on/off) unless the firewire cable is removed from the camera before you change the setting. Frustrating and not well documented.

Estelle MacDonald has a great summary of Composite Modes here:

I LoveHate this camera and have had similar problems. The answer seems to be:
1. Power off camera
2. Disconnect Firewire cable from Camera
3. Power on Camera, select menu settings for output (HDV, SD)
4. CONNECT Firewire cable to camera, FCP
5. Fire up FCP with a new project using appropriate settings.Apparently, it won’t read the setting changes unless the Firewire cable is disconnected.

Sounds like your task would be better suited to a graphics application, such as Combustion, AfterEffects, or even Flash – I believe these all allow you to create custom canvas sizes.

Richard – what are your project settings – did you use an “easy setup”? You may want to start with one of these…

May 13, 2008 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro missing Master Temps/3d Text ProjectsAre you referring to the motion templates you can pull up from the generator? I know FCP is very particular about where it looks for these, but can’t remember exactly where – I did find this though:
https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301611
When you’re installing Motion, if you choose an alternate install location for your Motion Content and then run the HD templates installer, the HD templates may not get installed in your alternate location. This can happen if there is a space in the alternate install path (for example, ~/Documents/my content), or if the path contains the name Motion (for example, ~/Documents/motion). In the latter scenario, the HD Templates will get installed in the default location (/Users/Shared/Motion/Templates). You can move the templates to your preferred location, but you must move or copy all of the following files:
* Motion/Library/Content/Tech Blue
* Motion/Library/Content/Blocks
* Motion/Templates/Tech Blue
* Motion/Templates/BlocksThe Motion HD Templates.pkg installer is located in the Motion Extras folder on the Motion 2 install disc.

I’m not sure, but you might want to look in to this:
https://www.xmedit.com/features/
There was also a recent article in the COW on using Automator to… automate things. I don’t know if that would apply but worth a look.

James,
Audio for CD is mastered to peak at (and often *average* at)0dB, whereas audio in videoland is much happier around -12, peaking around -6. So what the audio dept is giving you is fine, you just need to pad it down to make your sensitive video systems happy.
Cheers,

I think it might not be related – I pulled Franklin Gothic (TTF) off my windows box yesterday to comp something for a client and half the versions of that (I’ve not taken specific notes) go italic as well. I would be interested to see if anyone has problems with specific foundries or sources, etc…
