I shoot DVCPro 50 all the time for a couple of TV shows( 1 hour & 1/2 hour). This also includes some Chroma work.To begin with i was using Uncompressed 8 bit but the project’s size was just way too huge for my hard drives. My thinking was that uncompressed 8 bit will make my projects better, but i was wrong.

So after doing some research i switched over to pro res422. Project size is manageable & even the rendering times are not that long.

Is that a wise choice or should i just stick to DVCPro 50?

Ok. So here’s what you do.

Make a new sequence & open it. Before you insert any clips in this new timeline go to sequence settings under sequence tab.

Now match the sequence settings to your clip settings. This should solve all your rendering issues.

Well folks, i was at a couple of events here in vancouver & all the equipment i saw in their hands was Panasonic. Ones i noticed were HVX 200, HPX 300, 500 & HDX900.

I don’t know about US but here in canada they actually had TV ads saying that Panasonic was providing all the broadcast equipment. It was kind of new to me because it was the first time Panasonic actually advertised its Pro equipment in the mainstream market.

What do you think of “Frezzolini FRMRFIC4XK1 35-watt Dimmer Micro-Fill”
or Anton Bauer’s ElightZ. I have never used the later one & it might just be a very weak light.

I need one for weddings & Litepanel’s Micro is just not good enough for the low light conditions i shoot in.

What makes a good used VTR ? How many operation & Drum Hours are okay on a used UVW-1800? I know lesser the better but whats the upper limit?

Hi Shane!

I don’t think i will be going from SD to HD. However i want to have the option of upconverting from 720p to 1080. Also option of downconverting from HD to SD would be required.

Another thing i noticed on IO express is that it does not have any ‘component in’ option. I guess if i want to capture MiniDV footage uncompressed then i need ‘component in’ option. Right?

I am a little familiar with AJA. Thats why don’t want to move something else.

After much thought I have decided to go with Panasonic HVX-200a. It can shoot DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO50 on P2 cards & DV on tape. I did’nt want to be totally dependent on P2 cards as they are expensive as compared to tape.

My only problem with HVX-200a is that its not a shoulder mount camera, but I guess I can live with that!
