Try using the Command-K shortcut instead. That will cut through whatever you have selected. Much easier and more powerful and adaptable than the Razor option.

[Bob Cole] “Picky, picky, I know — but is there a way to edit this line? I’d like to delete the “SRC TC” part.”

If you go to the burn-in settings, to the right of the burn-in selection window, there is a dropdown that allows you to deselect “Prefix Render Text” – it’s the menu with the three dots.

I’m not sure there’s a way to hide the frames though.

On the other hand, Resolve has had way more upgrades within the same time frame, almost all of them a lot more substantive than this, and Resolve is free.

Which is better value, I wonder?

You have to step inside the CC to make changes to the edit, and you can only actually monitor the audio mix when you’re at the top level of the CC, which is a bit of a limitation, but otherwise it’s great.

When you’re done editing, convert your project to a Compound Clip to adjust volume and apply effects across an entire role.

This may not sound like much but it is in fact the standout feature. And something that’s been requested by so many users for such a long time.

Make sure you try the Roles Based Mixer feature (via CC) – it really is the killer feature IMHO.

The fact that you can now use Roles to create your mix with is a huge step forward.

Not the most perfect implementation by a long stretch because it only works in the context of a global compound clip but still very nice if you are finishing your audio inside FCP X.

Really interesting post. And I like that you bring up architecture.

Architecture is a metaphor that I find myself using a lot for editing, perhaps because we don’t actually have a dedicated language in the film world for what we are talking about here.

I found myself talking about “space” in my original post, and of course I didn’t actually mean space except metaphorically.

The architecture of editing, unlike the other visual arts, is such that “space” is in fact time.
