That said, in many parts of the world you’ll now need a lot more than that to produce “legal” audio as loudness metering has now become or is becoming a standard and you can’t do that yet inside FCPX.
Although the great folks at NuGen have already produced suitable loudness metering plug-ins for FCP7 and Media Composer:

Conversely with TTTT”Actually neither of us meant TTTT which is select everything backwards – what you described and what I meant to comment on was TTT which is select everything forwards.
Also, for the sake of clarity, the preferable shortcut for TTT that I was referring to is to hit T once and then hold down the Shift key so that the tool becomes the equivalent of having hit TTT.

I don’t disagree that there are some T-type features missing that it would be good to have back, but this particular one is what gaps are ideally suited to addressing:
Insert, delete or trim a gap to achieve what you are describing.
To my mind this is quite a lot better than TTTT because of how the clip connections keep everything pretty much where you’d hope it to be.
Conversely with TTTT (or for the truly initiated Shift T, which is sooo much handier), you would often have to make fiddly extra selections or deselections, and transitions would often get picked up (or not) when you didn’t want them to be.

If you Cmd/select all the transitions you want to alter, you can then type Ctrl/D and enter a new duration by typing in the new amount.

Just had a quick look through the new manual – so much really useful and interesting stuff in there.
I had a quick question and it’s probably not achievable but I thought I would ask anyway:
Is there any way to allow developers to release updates to existing templates in such a way that they overwrite or replace the old versions?
I can see a number of problems with this from all sides of the equation but you might have a typically elegant answer!

The published order won’t corrspond to the order in the Layers menu. It is determined by the Project pane in the Inspector. Set your order there and you’ll be fine.

Absolutely – up until FCPX came along I felt my MacPro was doing pretty well with any current app that I threw at it (including high performance 3D apps and suchlike).
All of a sudden 8GB of RAM is way too little. What’s with that????!!!!
OK, I get it. Someone wants me to think about buying a new machine …
Is Apple going to be selling the new machine that does everything else I need it to do? Who knows? I can only hope so …

For anybody thinking of using this effect, please note there is now a new version (V1.1) with improved functionality (see enclosed manual for details) and a “bug fix”.

In V1.0 the Increase.Detail slider seems to have got corrupted for reasons best know to Motion 5.
I mention this because I am becoming increasingly aware that with more complex forms of rigging and linking, you may find that over the course of building an effect, or even thereafter, some of the rigging and linking may well either become unlinked or stop working or become “buggy” as in this case.
Initially I put this down to operator error on my part but it’s starting to become clear that building very elaborate Motion 5 templates can sometimes lead to problems of this nature. Fine if you’re just publishing a built-in parameter or two, less good if there’s lots going on “under the hood”.
