[craig slattery] “Plus the new black Comedy by British director Dan Wheatley, Sightseers. “

I’m sure it’s a great programme you’ve cut – but the director of Sightseers is Ben Wheatley.

    Not “Dan”.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Just curious, Simon, do you have 3&4 installed?

If so, where is 3 installed and where is 4 installed?
    “

No, only 4 – and the FCS remover plus reinstall trick worked just fine. All functioning as it should now.

    Oops, missed that discussion.

    Thanks for pointing it out.

    I always love a good reinstall 🙂

(For now I’ll just use File/Send to Compressor which works just fine.)

  • In the Add to Playlist menu you need to select “Do Nothing” otherwise it will go straight to the Movies* folder without giving you the save options in the Next tab.

Here’s a FCP X effect that’s designed for this situation:

    4873_tkycloneeffect.zip

It might help you solve this.

It uses the technique you are describing, allowing you to select, position, scale and feather the mask for the area you want to affect, and then offset a cloned layer to fill the masked area with different content. Both the mask area and the offset can be manipulated with onscreen controls, and you can even color correct the new fill for a better match.

[Mark Spencer] “You could stop it several ways – I like to add the Drag behavior and keyframe it to create a “bullet-time” freeze effect – you stop the emitter, then swing the camera around.”

Very nice technique – works a treat. I’m glad I asked!

    Many thanks.

[Mark Spencer] “Sure it would – the stars would turn to face the camera, giving the illusion that they are spheres instead of flat discs.”

Yes, I know this but how would you “stop” the animation of the starfield emitter and achieve the same result, which was the original question?

[Mark Spencer] “True but you can turn on global 3D so that those flat planes always turn to face the camera, creating the illusion that they have depth”

Yes, indeed. But unless I’m being very dense (more than possible), I don’t see that this will help the OP with his problem, will it?

I think he wants to move his camera around a frozen starfield, so this wouldn’t work, would it?

[Schlanger Tamás] “Anyway is it possible to make 3d starfield in global 3d?
I hoped I have just stop somehow the starfield in motion content (particle emitter)..
    How to do?”

Motion particle systems are only fake 3D – if you look at them from the side they are completely flat 2D planes. They only create the illusion of depth through scaling the particles not actually moving in Z space.

[Jonathan White] “Thanks a million for taking the time to help, away from the edit suite at the moment but I’m sure that’s what I want, I’d found it in motion alright but hadn’t worked out how to publish it.”

There’s always been a Strobe Behavior (which wouldn’t work properly when published) but the Strobe Filter is new in the latest release – as far as I can tell. Who knows what other goodies are lurking in there?!
