  • Wow. Thank you so much for the information….but…

It looks like I will be having to convert 23.98 to 29.97. What would be the best way to do this. The footage has already been captured so I cannot do a remove pulldown. Any thoughts?

    Thanks very much.

You could also dub the tape over with fresh new TC there avoiding any kind of TC problems if you need to go back to the source.

I could be wrong but last time I remember the function Capture Now, allows you to take in video across TC breaks where FCP makes new clips during every break. Although rumor has it (but I found not be true in my cases) that TC is not recorded during Capture Now.

  • I wouldn’t worry about it unsyncing. Final cut will warn you when your A/V are no longer sync by telling you how much the off sync is on the clip in red.

But if you just want 1 & 4 tracks being used, just set the Audio Track Activation tabs on the left of the timeline, (labeled A1 and A2) and clamp them onto track 1 and 4. Now when you insert or overwrite the clip onto the time line, the audio should split in those two tracks.

    Hi,

I can’t tell you the answer however my friend has similar problem. The FW400 and 800 share the same bus, therefore you cannot use them at the same time. Now it would make sense to connect your DVcam to the FW400 and hard drive to the 800. However you wont be able to Print to Video. Of course there is the USB port but that is too slow to run RT for tape output. The Mac people told her to get a SATA card so she can connect her hard drive that way however that not becomes costly.

Is this some kind of stupid mistake Apple made when designing the MacBook Pro? Given the info I know seems like it….

My suggestion to her if she wanted to avoid the SATA card is to export the final sequence with a high compression, like Animation, on to the system HD. Then import back into FCP and then out to tape. Of course in theory there would be some minute down compression but given DV is already compressed it might not matter… Thats my thought…. however don’t know if I’m right…

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. I realize the reason why I wasn’t able to do it was because you need to make sure also that you are in Wireframe + Image mode in your canvas viewer. Otherwise the instructions wont work.

    Thanks!

Sorry don’t mean to be a pain but I still can get it to work. Is this something that is new in Final Cut 6? Cause I’m still using 5…….

I click on the clip, toggle with Q to canvas, use opt and arrows but nothing happens. When I click the clip it should not be in the viewer window correct? I tried to different ways but still ain’t doing it for me. Maybe I just have to give up… Eeekkk

    Thanks for your help!

I just tried it but it didnt work for me. it seems like I can move the clip around in the time line (if I hold both shift and opt) but not the position of the object within the canvas. I just made a text clip and inserted on the time line. Then I selected it pressed Q and then held down option and used the arrows. Nothing happened….. Am I missing some step here?
