  • Move Center Point with Motion Tab Accurately?????

    Hi,

I’ve been trying to look for this answer for some while.

Is there anyway to move the Center Point of a clip accurately? As in having the X and Y slide independently of each other?? As oppose to using the Taget where X and Y are moved together depending on cursor. I know you can input values but this is sow. Is there no faster way like some drag function?

Thanks so much. I’m dying to know this….

You can nudge the object. Select the clip in the timeline. Then make the canvas the active window. Do not click on the canvas or the item in the canvas. If you do this will not work. Use Cmd-2 or Q to make the canvas active, then holding the Option key the arrow keys will let you nudge the object around the screen.

    All the best,

I just tried it but it didnt work for me. it seems like I can move the clip around in the time line (if I hold both shift and opt) but not the position of the object within the canvas. I just made a text clip and inserted on the time line. Then I selected it pressed Q and then held down option and used the arrows. Nothing happened….. Am I missing some step here?

Select the item in the timeline. You must select the item in the timeline before making the canvas the active window. Make the canvas the active window. Hold the Option key and use the arrow keys. It must be this exact sequence of instructions. Nothing else.

    All the best,

Sorry don’t mean to be a pain but I still can get it to work. Is this something that is new in Final Cut 6? Cause I’m still using 5…….

I click on the clip, toggle with Q to canvas, use opt and arrows but nothing happens. When I click the clip it should not be in the viewer window correct? I tried to different ways but still ain’t doing it for me. Maybe I just have to give up… Eeekkk

    Thanks for your help!

No, it’s been there since v3 I think.

You need to click on the clip in the Timeline to select it. Press the Q key twice. Hold the Option key and use the arrows.

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. I realize the reason why I wasn’t able to do it was because you need to make sure also that you are in Wireframe + Image mode in your canvas viewer. Otherwise the instructions wont work.

    Thanks!
